Take Action Against Vein Disease at the First Sight!

Take Action Against Vein Disease at the First Sight!Spider and varicose veins are known as embarrassing conditions. They cause discolored lines to develop around the calves and thighs, sometimes also affecting other areas of the body like the face or nose. As varicose veins grow worse they begin bulging over the surface layer of the skin and make themselves more evident for all to see. Many people who struggle with spider and varicose veins do what they can to stay covered, whether that means staying in long pants in the hot Georgia heat, or wearing stockings under everything.

However, both of these common forms of vein disease don’t start out this way. Varicose and spider veins don’t appear overnight. They develop slowly and gradually, causing only slight discoloration at first. It is only after years have passed that the veins will be large, bulging and unsightly.

In the meantime, there are many steps that you can take to prevent the gradual worsening of the condition:

  • Wear compression hose: Underneath your pants or when you are around the house, wear compression stockings. These help to enhance blood flow and can preserve the health of your veins.
  • Don’t cross your legs: Crossing your legs when sitting down can inhibit proper blood flow, increasing your chance for spider and varicose veins.
  • Be more active: Cardiovascular activity encourages healthy blood flow, and when your blood flows healthily it is less likely to pool in the veins and cause the discoloration that we see as spider veins.
  • Maintain a healthy weight: Being overweight or obese can increase your risk of developing spider and varicose veins. Making dietary changes and exercising more frequently can help you manage your weight level.

If you notice the early signs of spider or varicose veins, don’t just sit back. The longer you allow vein disease to linger, the more intense it will grow. There are many treatment options for vein disease, and some that can even reduce or remove embarrassing veins after they have fully developed. However, that is no reason to wait. Taking preventative steps and seeking treatment early on can make the process of removing varicose and spider veins much easier.
