New Treatment Method for Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are more than a cosmetic concern. They are actually a medical condition with the formal name of venous insufficiency. If you have varicose veins in one or both of your legs, you may also experience fatigue and leg pain. Fortunately, there is now new vein treatment in Canton that can be completed on an outpatient basis.

When you receive vein treatment in Canton, your doctor will use Endovenous Laser Therapy to seal your veins. Eventually, the sealed veins are absorbed by your body and no longer appear as unsightly marks on your legs. The procedure boasts a success rate of close to 90 percent, which is much higher than the 50 percent success rate of vein stripping, the previous method used to treat varicose veins.

In order to locate the veins from the inside of your leg, your doctor will use laser therapy and a sonogram. Once the veins are located, your doctor will give you a local anesthesia and hook up an IV to the affected vein. Your doctor will place laser fiber into the IV in order to compress it and seal your veins. The incisions you receive during Endovenous Laser Therapy should not be more than three inches in diameter.

Once the procedure is complete, your doctor will place bandages over the veins that were treated. Unlike vein stripping, Endovenous Laser Therapy requires no stitches afterwards. From start to finish, the entire procedure takes about an hour in your doctor’s office.

Before you are sent home, your doctor will discuss any follow-up care you may need, although it is usually minimal. You will need to take anti-inflammatory medication for the first few days after the procedure as well as wear compression stockings. You are encouraged to walk as soon as possible to prevent blood clots from forming.
