Do Lunges to Prevent Varicose Veins

Varicose veins develop as a result of weakened or damaged valves in the veins. Lunges are one type of physical activity that works your lower body, including your thighs and glutes. When you engage in lunges, you are exercising your leg muscles. This is great for your blood flow, and helps keep all of your veins in tip-top shape, thereby preventing varicose veins!

To do a lunge, find a long hallway that you can travel up and down a number of times. Stand up straight with your arms held down at your sides and take a big step forward with your left foot. Once you plant your left foot begin to bend your left knee, all the while keeping your back straight, your eyes looking forward and your arms at your sides. Bend your left knee until it reaches a 90-degree angle, and as you bend allow your right leg to gradually drop to the floor, letting your right knee barely touch the floor behind you. Hold this pose for ten seconds, and then return to a standing position. Repeat this activity ten to twenty times, alternating sides as you do laps along your hallway.
